    Sumter Players announces 60th anniversary season

    Enchanting Mysteries and Enduring Bonds: A Season of Wonder [AMERICUS, GA, August 1, 2024] – Sumter Players, Inc. proudly announces its 60th anniversary season: Harvey (October 3-6, 2024), Elf the Musical (December 6-8, 2024), Murder on the Orient Express (March 6-9, 2025) and Steel Magnolias (May 8-11, 2025). Additional details about season membership prices and audition information can be found on the website of the Sumter Players at: sumterplayers.org. Sumter Players President Laura McConatha said, “In these ever changing times that we live in, I think it is a testament to the people of Sumter County that our all-volunteer, nonprofit community theatre has endured for 6 decades. I am so grateful for the resilience and determination of all who have participated through the years and look forward to a future that is brimming with possibilities.”

    Working with the Leadership Institute at Columbus State University, Sumter Players has been engaged in strategic planning for most of the past year. Their overarching goal for the next 5 years is “Enriching the Quality of Life for Our Community,” and their focus areas are: awaken and encourage creativity, create opportunities for engagement, building community, and organizational sustainability.

    Reflecting on the historic past of the Sumter Players, former President Tom McFarland, who has been with the Sumter Players since performing in “The Cotton Patch Gospels” in 1997, shared, “the 60th wedding anniversary is the Diamond anniversary, so this season is a reflection of all that a Diamond anniversary represents: strength, brilliance, enduring resilience, lasting beauty, entertaining and transformative.”

    About Sumter Players, Inc. Sumter Players, Inc. has been Americus’ Community Theater since 1965. Sumter Players is a 501(c)3 nonprofit, volunteer-based organization that is open to everyone without regard to age, gender, color, national origin, race, disability, sexual orientation, or any other defining characteristic. Sumter Players produces four performances a year as well as a youth theater program (KidsWeek and TeenWeek) each summer. The mission of Sumter Players is to awaken and encourage creativity and self-expression by providing opportunities for engagement in community theatre.
