Copiague Appoints New Board of Education Officers
Copiague School District’s Board of Education held its annual reorganizational meeting on July 10. Reelected Board of Education trustees Kenneth Urban and Michael Higgins along with newly elected trustee Beatrice Guido were sworn into office by District Clerk Deborah VanFlorcke. Anthony S. Pepe was elected and sworn in as president of the Board of Education. Brian J. Sales and Mr. Urban were sworn in as first vice president and second vice president, respectively. Copiague School District’s Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kathleen Bannon was also sworn in by Ms. VanFlorcke.

Three Nassau County healthcare facilities are among the top 10 hospitals in New York State, according to U.S. News & World Report‘s 2024-2025 Best Hospitals Rankings. At the very top of the list is Northwell Health’s North Shore University Hospital, which is among four healthcare facilities that finished in a tie for best hospital in the state. Highly ranked nationally in nine key adult specialties, the Manhasset hospital is the sole Long Island hospital to appear this year on U.S. News’ Best Hospitals Honor Roll.
Remembering Town of Hempstead Councilman Chris Carini
If any message was clear at Hempstead Town Councilman Chris Carini’s funeral mass on July 22, it was one that simply said: “He was there.”. Carini, a champion of quality-of-life initiatives in Hempstead and the 5th Councilmanic District, was laid to rest on Monday, following a mass of Christian Burial at St. William the Abbot Roman Catholic Church in Seaford. The district includes Seaford, Wantagh, parts of Bellmore, Merrick, Freeport, Point Lookout and Lido Beach.
Syosset’s Dunkin’ Hosts Grand Re-Opening
On Wednesday, July 17 Nassau County Legislature Deputy Minority Leader Arnold W. Drucker (D – Plainview) attended the grand re-opening of the newly renovated Dunkin’ on Jackson Avenue in Syosset.
