Rain Can't Stop the Fun: East Williston Little League Enjoys Mets Game Bash
The East Williston Baseball and Softball League had an unforgettable outing at the Mets game on June 14th, even though the much-anticipated parade was rained out. Spirits were high as over 350 attendees enjoyed the evening at CitiField. Families and friends gathered, sharing laughs and cheering on the Mets when the rain eventually stopped, making the best of the unexpected weather. Kids and parents alike enjoyed ballpark treats, took part in fun activities, and even got on the Jumbo Tron to create lasting memories together.

The New York Racing Association provided a window into the future of downstate racing July 1 when it announced that the main dirt track at the new Belmont Park will mirror the surfaces at Saratoga Race Course and that winter racing will be conducted for approximately three months on a new all-weather track when the Elmont, N.Y., facility reopens in 2026.
Walsh Celebrates POB Girls’ Flag Football State Championship Win
Oyster Bay Town Councilwoman Vicki Walsh joined the Plainview-Old Bethpage Board of Education and Central Administration to celebrate the Girls Flag Football Team, who recently won the New York State Championship. The last time a Plainview-Old Bethpage Team took a State Championship was in 1983 for Boys’ Soccer, making this win an even more tremendous accomplishment for the district. Councilwoman Walsh commended the team’s amazing athleticism and camaraderie on the field, and also thanked coaches Mr. Abramowitz, Mr. Tomasulo, Ms. Ho, and Mr. Gurney for all they did to make this win possible. New York State Senator Steve Rhoads, Assemblyman Jake Blumencranz, and Nassau County Legislator Arnie Drucker were also in attendance.
Lloyd Frazier Memorial Golf & Tennis Outing Honoring Steven Frazier July 15
Steven Frazier grew up inside McDonald’s. As the child of a McDonald’s Owner/Operator, Steve looked up to his dad and saw how hard he worked to run his businesses, feed his community, and support his family. Steve’s dad, Lloyd Frazier was a hero to Steven—and to many. In 2001, One of Lloyd’s restaurants, located on Greenwich and Chambers Streets in Lower Manhattan, stood a few feet away from the destruction of the terrorist attacks on 9/11. Steven recalls how his dad heroically saved the lives of two first responders that day. For days and weeks after, police officers, fire fighters, and paramedics found refuge in Lloyd’s restaurant, which earned the nickname “Hotel McDonalds.” Ultimately, Lloyd served 700,000 free meals to Ground Zero fire fighters, police officers and rescue workers.
“Swing for Hope” golf outing raises $180K for The Safe Center
The Safe Center, a Bethpage-based victim service organization, raised $180,000 at its annual “Swing For Hope” golf outing. The event, held on Monday, June 10 at the Brookville Country Club in Glen Head, was chaired by Adam Dejak, TSCLI board member and national director of residential lending at Popular Bank. The fundraising outing was held to support victims and survivors of domestic violence, human trafficking and interpersonal abuse on Long Island.
Hofstra Welcomes Back Jamie Franco As Head Wrestling Coach
Hempstead, NY - Hofstra wrestling alumnus and former associate head coach Jamie Franco returns to the University as he was named the program's 13th head wrestling coach on July 1, 2024, it was announced by Hofstra Vice President and Director of Athletics Rick Cole Jr. Franco, a three-time NCAA Championship qualifier, served on the staff from 2016 to 2023, including the final two seasons as the associate head coach.
McConie claims the 2024 Michael Hebron Championship
Farmingdale N.Y. (July 3, 2024) It was another hot day at Bethpage State Park's Black Course for the 2024 Michael Hebron Amateur Championship as Michael McConie of Colonial Springs went wire to wire recording another round under par to win the Michael Hebron Amateur Championship. After opening the tournament with a 3-under 68 he would go the distance and claim the championship by six shots.
