NC Teen Killed in US Hwy 29 Crash

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol reported that an automobile crash on US 29 on Thursday evening claimed the life of a Greensboro teenager.

Troopers arrived at the location of US 29 and Benaja Road in Guilford County at approximately 6:51 p.m. on Thursday.

According to investigators, a 2019 Chevrolet Malibu that was traveling south on US 29 in the outside lane was sideswiped by Bryce Thomas Swanson, 19, of Greensboro, who was traveling south on the highway in a 2020 Honda Accord. Following this, Swanson lost control of the car he was driving, went through the median, and hit a roll-back wrecker truck that was coming from the opposite direction on US 29.

Troopers reported that Swanson died at the scene. The driver of the wrecker truck was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries, while the driver of the Malibu was uninjured.

According to troopers, Swanson's reason for sideswiping the Malibu is unknown. Speed and impairment, however, had no role in the accident.

The crash is still being investigated extensively. As of right now, no additional information is available.
