    Fourth of July fireworks illuminate ‘Midnight’ Sky in Anchorage

    ANCHORAGE, A.K. — Fireworks illuminated the sky above Anchorage, Alaska, just after midnight on Thursday, July 4, to mark the nation’s Independence Day.

    Footage was posted to X shows the fireworks display in Anchorage just after midnight local time, with the sun still on the horizon due to the Summer solstice .

    “It basically never gets dark from early June to mid-July between Anchorage and the Arctic Ocean, including Fairbanks and all destinations in between,” according to the state’s official website.

    This year’s Summer solstice occurred in the state on June 20 – the earliest time since 1796, local media reported .
