Palmer man charged with several aviation crimes
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - A Palmer man was charged with illegally operating an aircraft. According to the court documents, 56-year-old William Marsan, is allegedly the owner and pilot of a private aircraft in Alaska. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) received a report in June of 2023 stating Marsan did not radio his take off from Palmer, and also flew against the flow of landing traffic. This resulted in him almost causing an in-air collision with an aircraft attempting to land.
Soldotna Open To First Cycle Of Mini Grant Applications
The City of Soldotna is accepting applications for the Mini-Grant Program from now until August 15. The purpose of the mini-grant program is to recognize the valued contributions being provided through the volunteer efforts of community organizations and agencies on behalf of the community. Local responders monitoring entangled whale in Nateekin Bay
There’s an entangled humpback whale in Nateekin Bay, and local responders are asking boaters to keep their distance. Asia Beder, a management biologist with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game in Dutch Harbor, said reports of the entangled whale started coming in Sunday evening and a local response team has been keeping an eye on the whale since.
Art show honors Homer artist’s late wife

Ohana Media Group promoted Cat Okegawa to Local Sales Manager for the Anchorage/Wasilla Cluster of radio stations. Okegawa returned to Ohana Media Group in March 2024 as an Account Executive after dabbling in other sales roles. She was with the stations’ previous owner, New Northwest Broadcasters, from 2007 through 2010 in sales, and in a management role she oversees daily sales operations to achieve business goals and maximize profitability of the stations.

Like other Alaska communities, there is not enough housing available within city or borough limits, and the homes that are for sale are too expensive for the average lower to middle class resident. Juneau residents gather to protest officer shooting of homeless man
JUNEAU, Alaska (KTUU) - Juneau community members gathered Sunday afternoon to protest the shooting of Steven Kissack by law enforcement officers. Kissack was shot by police on July 15 after officials said he would not drop a knife he was holding. The Department of Public Safety (DPS) said Juneau police officers and an Alaska Wildlife Trooper shot Kissack with a bean bag gun when he did not comply. Kissack then appeared to charge officers, and they fired their weapons.
