The first 2027 in-state recruit to notch a Michigan offer was Harper Woods (Mich.) High athlete Dakota Guerrant .

U-M entered the mix in the spring of Guerrant’s eighth-grade year. Since then, he’s visited Ann Arbor six times, with an upcoming return for the BBQ at The Big House.

“They’ve been talking to me more, trying to get me more on campus and build better bonds, stuff like that,” Guerrant told The Wolverine in June.

Guerrant has been on campus twice this summer. The first was for a team-hosted camp, and later for a local 7v7 event played inside the stadium. This weekend will be Guerrant’s second barbecue attended, which he went to last year as well.

These several trips have allowed Guerrant to connect further with the staff, including Michigan wide receivers coach Ron Bellamy .

“He likes me at receiver and stuff, so that’s good,” Guerrant said. “He saw a couple of my clips at (a national) camp. He said he liked me (as a) physical receiver. Likes my size, speed, all that stuff.”

Guerrant first met the new coaches during spring camp when he attended a session at Al Glick Field House.

“It was nice, for sure,” Guerrant said. “We watched the practice. That’s when I saw Jacob (Oden) . That was a good practice, for sure. He looked nice, man. Fit in.”

Oden is Guerrant’s older cousin, and they were a part of the Harper Woods team that won the MHSAA Division IV state championship last season. Oden also isn’t shying away from letting Guerrant know through peer-recruiting of the desire for them to be teammates again at the next level.

“Of course. Of course,” Guerrant said. “All the time. Every time I see him.”

The family connection with Michigan was brought up when Guerrant spoke with head coach Sherrone Moore a few months ago.

“He remembered me, for sure,” Guerrant said. “He was like, ‘You’re Jacob Oden’s little cousin?’ I’m like, ‘Yeah.’ But I have to have him remember me for me.”

Like Bellamy, Guerrant has a strong impression of Moore.

“He was cool,” Guerrant said. “He was actually really cool with me. Albert (Karschnia) took me to him and stuff. Then he was like, ‘I like this kid. He got good size and all that stuff.’ So, that was good.”

The Wolverines are the early favorite for Guerrant on the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine.

At 6-foot-1, 175 pounds, Guerrant is not yet listed on the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four primary recruiting media services.

Along with Michigan, he holds notable offers from Ohio State, Michigan State, Kentucky, Maryland, Purdue, Tennessee, Notre Dame, Penn State, Pitt, Auburn, and Louisville, among others.
