Following the NCAA's Sunday release of a preliminary draft of its notice of allegations to the Michigan Wolverines regarding the investigation into former Michigan staffer Connor Stalions' involvement with the program, many fans throughout college football believe the Wolverines should face severe punishment for its transgressions.

However, ESPN's Paul Finebaum appeared on Monday's airing of Get Up , giving a blunt response to the recent news surrounding the investigation.

On the show, Finebaum explained that he believes the drama surrounding the notice of allegations draft will mean nothing due to the expected legal injunctions against the punishments, which will make the NCAA essentially powerless.

"I don't think it's really going anywhere because the NCAA doesn't have a lot of teeth, Finebaum said. "But I don't think this really ultimately is going to mean very much because the NCAA is almost powerless. Why is it powerless? Because the second it does something, there will be an army of lawyers trying to get injunctions, and they will succeed.

"The NCAA's track record in court is worse than the Carolina Panthers on the gridiron. They have no chance against anyone. So I think ultimately, whether this sounds serious, whether people want to make a big deal out of this, it's going nowhere."

While Michigan has not received official documentation from the NCAA regarding the notice of allegations, the draft includes a potential show-cause penalty for the Wolverines' head coach and possibly a suspension for allegedly deleting a thread of 52 text messages with Stalions in October 2023 on the same day media reports revealed Stalions was leading an effort to capture playcalling signals of future opponents.

Finebaum continued by stating that the biggest he expects no severe ramifications to be given to Sherrone Moore or the Michigan Wolverines program as a result of the allegations.

"But ultimately, Sherrone Moore will stay as the coach," Finebaum said. "He may miss a game against some directional MAC school, but ultimately, it won't affect last year's title, and it's not going to affect their chances of making the playoffs this year."

Finebaum expects the biggest news to come out of Netflix's Aug. 27 premiere of Sign Stealer , which will involve an in-depth look at Stalions' involvement with the Wolverines as part of its Untold docuseries.

"The biggest part of all this is going to come in about three weeks when Netflix has a special on Conor Stallion's where he tells all, and we'll all react the next day," Finebaum stated.

This appearance by Finebaum will certainly dampen the mood of the Wolverines' rivals, particularly those in Columbus and East Lansing, who have been eagerly awaiting the NCAA to eventually 'drop the hammer' on Michigan.

With the college football season starting in a few weeks, the biggest consequence of this drama has only made the bulls-eye on the back of the Wolverines larger as the program begins the quest to defend its title in 2024.

The Wolverines open their 2024 campaign on Aug. 31 against the Fresno State Bulldogs from Michigan Stadium at 7:30 pm (ET), airing on NBC and Peacock.
