According to police dispatch records and bodycam footage, a driverless Waymo vehicle freaked out and tried to run after a Phoenix police officer initiated a traffic stop. The officer observed the autonomous vehicle driving into oncoming traffic after it became confused around a construction zone. When the officer decided to "light it up" he claims the Waymo outfitted Jaguar I-Pace ran a red light, proceeding even further in the oncoming lane, before pulling into the next available parking lot.
