YAKIMA, Wash. — Triumph Treatment Center will hold its eighth annual International Overdose Awareness Day event this Friday, aiming to shed light on the growing overdose crisis in Yakima County.

According to event organizers, 96 people died of an overdose in Yakima County last year.

“Many more hundreds of people experienced overdose and didn't pass from that, but the problem is overwhelming," said Renee Kollman with Triumph Treatment Services. "It's affecting our families and our children and our communities, as well as our first responders.”

The event will feature speakers who have experienced overdose, lost loved ones, or are actively working to combat the crisis.

Nearly 30 community resources will be available for those seeking help and memory wall will be set up, where attendees can place pictures of loved ones lost to overdose.

In addition to the informational resources, attendees can find coffee, donuts, ice cream and participate in a remembrance rock painting activity.

The event, which is free to the public, will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday at Sarg Hubbard Park
