Arizona Cardinals ink four-year deal with third-round draft pick days ahead of training camp

Rookie running back Trey Benson got the deal he wanted.

On Thursday, the Arizona Cardinals signed Benson to a four-year contract, mere days ahead of the start of the Cardinals' training camp.

Benson was the last rookie to sign , with the rest of the class inking its rookie contracts earlier in the spring.

"I haven't been anxious," Benson said, via the Arizona Cardinals' official website . "I knew it was going to happen at one point. I just kept my head down and continued to work."

Arizona will report to training camp on Tuesday, July 23.

Benson, while at Florida State, was a productive running back. He racked up back-to-back seasons with more than 900 yards rushing.

He will be competing for playing time with James Conner , Michael Carter, DeeJay Dallas and Emari Demercado.

"He's just like a sponge and he just wants to learn everything," Conner said. "He's got a great work ethic. He's a good addition to the room. He's going to help us a ton this year."

As for the running back competition ahead of Benson, he appears ready.

"We all have a lot of different traits," Benson said. "Us all combined, it's one big monster."
