Strong gusty winds to impact Northern Arizona on Monday

According to the Arizona Weatherman, on Monday, 20 May 2024, stronger gusty winds will impact northern Arizona on the Mogollon Rim. These impacts may influence driving high clearance vehicles on I-40 between Holbrook and Flagstaff with a partial crosswind. Please be aware of these impacts when traveling on Monday afternoon.

The model data indicates strong gusty winds between 45 to 60 mph between Holbrook, Winslow, and Flagstaff and even impacts up to the Grand Canyon area. These winds are due to a tightening gradient of a developing low to the north of the state. Expect the strongest gusts in the afternoon and early evening hours. Also, if camping with a fire, these strong winds can increase the chance of wildfire activity. Therefore, be aware of local, state, and National Forest fire restrictions as well.

Gusty winds in the 30 to 45 mph range will also impact Southern Arizona near Tucson, Benson, Willcox, and Safford on Monday afternoon. The impacts will not be as high on the I-10 between Tucson and Willcox, but the fire danger will be enhanced due to these stronger winds.
