The upper-level high is over the northeast part of the state, bringing in an impulse along the southern edge of the ridge with some associated vorticity maxima into the afternoon and evening. The steering flow is general from the north, moving southward. This will come into play with the early evening thunderstorms pushing into La Paz County this evening. The skew-t indices are moderate to high, with CAPEs around 1,200 to 2,000, LIs -4 to -7, DCAPEs around 1,300, and a couple of positive hail indicators. It looks like there is a potential for severe conditions. The most probable chances are for the strong winds and hail.

The main push for severe isolated thunderstorms for winds greater than 60 mph, up to one-inch hail, and localized flooding will be for Gila, Southern Coconino, Yavapai, and even into Mohave Counties today. There is a likelihood of thunderstorms in northern Maricopa, early evening hours, and for La Paz County. The locations that will potentially have thunderstorms in the vicinity or overhead will be Flagstaff, Prescott, Payson, and Kingman this afternoon. The Southern Arizona area is looking at no thunderstorm activity today, and it will have higher temperatures and partly cloudy skies.
