1 killed in crash between car, bike on I-76

DENVER ( KDVR ) — Troopers are investigating a deadly crash between a car and bicyclist on Interstate 76 early Tuesday morning.

According to the Colorado State Patrol , the crash happened at 4:30 a.m. on I-76 near milepost 2, east of CO-95 at Sheridan Boulevard in Arvada. One person has been pronounced dead.

SkyFOX flew over the scene where a yellow car was visible, flipped on its hood in the median, and what could have been a Lime bike a few feet away. CSP stated later in the day that while a Lime rental bike was nearby, it did not appear that the device, or the individual who left it in the area of the crash, was related to the deadly crash. CDOT relocated it off the interstate, CSP reported.

A tow truck arrived at about 7:15 a.m. to clear the car and a bike.

In an official release later on Tuesday afternoon, CSP said troopers had responded at about 4:30 a.m. to a single-vehicle rollover crash and subsequent car fire. After arriving on scene, troopers found a bicyclist and the rolled-over car in the center median. The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, according to CSP.

The car’s driver was the only occupant. They were transported to a local hospital with serious injuries, according to CSP.

It is unclear what factors may have led to the crash, and the identity of the victim has not been released. The Adams County Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s identification. Currently, no charges have been filed.

Eastbound I-76 was closed and has since reopened.
