Heartbreaking seconds: 'Dockers fall in sectional final

In what amounted to hardly more than the blink of an eye, the Ashland Oredockers girls soccer team’s stellar season, which included an unblemished HON Conference championship record, and a return trip to state came to a heartbreaking end in the final seconds of a 1-0 loss to the Rice Lake Warriors in the WIAA D3 Sectional Finals at Rice Lake on June 8.

With just four ticks remaining in regulation after 80 minutes of action, rising Warriors freshman Audriana Schultz put the ball in the net to propel Rice Lake to the win and a berth at state for the first time since 2018. The Warriors enter the championship semifinals, to be played on June 14 at Uihlein Soccer Park in Milwaukee, with a 12-5-1 record. The Oredockers finish 19-3-1.
