Audubon gets third consecutive walk-off to advance to first-ever State Championship game
(Fort Dodge) – For the third-straight game and second time at the State Tournament, the Audubon Wheelers came up with a walk-off hit to win. This time it was senior Michelle Brooks who laced a two-run double down the right field line to score the tying and winning runs in a 3-2 State Semifinal win over Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont.
Van Meter Uses Late Inning Heroics to beat Audubon 5-3 and claim the 2A Softball Crown
(Ft. Dodge, IA) — The Wheelers came oooh so close but the Audubon softball team fell just short of their goal — winning a state title. Top seeded Van Meter used a 2 run HR from Mady Schnell in the bottom of the 6th inning to win the 2A State Championship 5-3 on Friday night.
Underwood Wins Class 2A State Baseball Title
(Carroll) Underwood captures the Class 2A State Baseball Tournament title with a Friday 5-1 win over New Hampton. Jack Vanfossen picked up the win on the mound for the Eagles. The senior pitched 5.2 innings and allowed no runs on no hits, with four strikeouts and two walks. Gus Bashore came in for the save.
Remsen St. Mary’s Baseball grinds out state tournament’s first-ever 14-inning game
Remsen St. Mary’s baseball won a state semifinal for the record books on Wednesday night in Carroll. The Hawks defeated Newman Catholic 7-4 in 14 innings marking the longest IHSAA state tournament baseball game in history. It also sends Remsen St. Mary’s to their third consecutive championship game.
Underwood One Step Closer to State Title
(Carroll, IA) Underwood baseball took down Unity Christian 3-1 in the 2A State Baseball Tournament quarterfinals. Unity Christian took the lead right out of the gate with a one-run lead in the top of the first inning. However, the lead didn’t last long as Underwood fired back with three runs of their own in the bottom of the second. Sophomore Garrett Luett was the standout player for the Eagles in this contest and did everything he could to help his team win. Luett got the win on the mound throwing all seven innings, allowing one earned run, and tallied 11 strikeouts. In the batter’s box, Luett also led the way for Underwood with a two-run triple in the bottom of the second to give Underwood the lead and the win.

(Fort Dodge) -- Audubon softball's magical run through the Class 2A State Softball Tournament ran fell just shy of the ultimate prize, but not for lack of effort. The Wheelers (29-5) went toe-to-toe with Van Meter (43-1), but a sixth-inning home run from eighth-grader Mady Schnell doomed Audubon in a 5-3 loss.
Carroll Chamber Readies For Ridiculous Day, Live + Local, And Mini Golf In Depot Park On Thursday
Tomorrow (Thursday) marks a big day for the Carroll Chamber of Commerce and its affiliate group, the Carroll Young Professionals (CYP), as Ridiculous Day, Live + Local, and mini-golf coincide near the downtown district. The Ridiculous Day sale features stellar discounts and dozens of businesses throughout the community. Chamber staff will give away $35 in chamber bucks every half hour from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. To be eligible to win, participants must register using a ticket from one of the participating businesses, a list of which is included with this story on our website. CYP opens its mini-golf course in the Depot Centre Park at 5:30 p.m., where adults and kids can golf for just $5.
