College Football fans around the world likely have a mix of views when it comes to SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey given all of the change(s) he's helped usher into the world "amateur" athletics in recent years. However, not one person can deny that what he's done with college football (among other sports) has been at the very least entertaining. And wow, did he have an entertaining quote that came out of an SEC Media Days radio row interview this week.

When discussing the College Football Playoff, he had some strong (and somewhat funny) words in regards to Georgia Bulldogs football, the selection committee, and Florida State:

"Georgia was one of the best four teams [in the nation] and didn't get in [the College Football Playoff]. But you didn't see us jumping up and down and complaining and hanging national championship banners."

It was an absolute zinger of a quote that immediately went viral today. And it is true that Georgia was quite objectively better than Florida State at almost every single position and as a team overall. And Georgia would have likely destroyed both Washington and Texas last season. However, the dunking on Florida State for "hanging national championship banners" isn't exactly accurate.

Florida State did not hold some big celebration for their national championship or even hang a banner either. Many fans around the sport in its entirety were certainly upset that the Seminoles didn't earn a playoff spot after a perfect 13-0 season though.

That outrage is fair considering the Seminoles may have been the most "deserving" in terms of resume. But the Georgia Bulldogs absolutely destroyed the competition all season long, winning on average by more than 24 points per game, boasting a far more talented, deeper roster.

Luckily, now that the College Football Playoff has expanded to 12 teams Greg Sankey won't have to spend too much time bashing the selection committee about top SEC teams missing out or undefeated teams complaining about not receiving their "fair" chance. Georgia should essentially be a lock for a spot and a home playoff game this fall as Carson Beck and company try to make up for the SEC Championship disappointment last season.
