With the 2024 season approaching, McDermott addressed the challenges of integrating new players and building team chemistry.

"Every year is a new year," he said. "Every team is a new team. We’ve enjoyed the challenges as a coaching staff, and it’s been interesting to learn about some of the new veterans we have and their backgrounds, their family lives as well, and kind of their stories. And then to welcome the new rookies we have this year, led by Keon Coleman... and he’s off to a great start in training camp."

The conversation turned to star quarterback Josh Allen , with McDermott dismissing recent criticisms as mere gossip. "I know who Josh is, that’s the most important thing. We know who Josh is, his teammates know who Josh is. We’re just fortunate to have a quarterback and a person like Josh in Buffalo and what an amazing leader he’s been!" McDermott said.

McDermott also reflected on the 2018 draft and the team's excitement in selecting Allen, emphasizing his fit with the community and his competitive spirit.

"There were some really high-quality quarterbacks in that draft. I think Baker (Mayfield) went first overall. But we were just targeting Josh the entire time," McDermott noted.

The interview concluded on a lighter note, discussing wide receiver Mack Hollins' quirky habits, including walking barefoot and not using utensils. McDermott joked about needing to adapt to Hollins' unique lifestyle while appreciating the energy and character he brings to the team.
