No Dice: Steelers & 49ers Trade Stalls Again

The Brandon Aiyuk saga continues. While the Pittsburgh Steelers are, and have been, interested in trading for the beleaguered receiver from the San Francisco 49ers, they are not interested in giving up their top stars to do it.

The 49ers, in their minds, believe they should receive top compensation for a player entering the last year of his contract. They are reportedly wanting receiver George Pickens in return, which is laughable at best.

NFL Inside Adam Schefter appeared on the Rothman and Ice Show on Wednesday to shut that down.

"Pittsburgh is not giving up George Pickens for Brandon Aiyuk,” Schefter said. “Pittsburgh is not giving up Pat Freiermuth for Brandon Aiyuk. Certain things are not realistic.”

Agreed. The whole process for the Steelers this offseason was trying to find a receiver they could pair with George Pickens, not give him up for another one. That just doesn’t make sense.

As far as Freiermuth goes, it is reported he is nearing an extension agreement with the Steelers, so he isn’t going anywhere anytime soon either.

It would be nice to have Aiyuk on the field, but at what cost? The Steelers aren’t interested in dismantling their team to obtain Aiyuk, nor should they be.

With the preseason about to begin, the Steelers will stand pat with the roster they have for the time being. Pittsburgh kicks off their preseason on Friday at home against the Houston Texans.
