One Player Who Mets Likely Could Trade in Offseason

As the 2024 season nears toward the end, there will likely be lots of players being traded during the 2024-25 offseason. One of those players might be New York Mets infielder Brett Baty.

Although he started his Mets big league era with a solo home run in his first career at-bat, Baty hasn’t been the player the team hoped for. To say the least, his time with the Mets has been rather disappointing.

The 24-year-old third baseman from Round Rock, TX is likely the player the Mets would trade in the winter due to the lack of use. His on-field performance is another reason.

Baty played 50 games for the Mets this season and struggled, hitting .229 with just four home runs and a .306 OBP. Defensively, he made a lot of errors, especially in critical in-game situations.

The Mets current third baseman is Mark Vientos, and Baty is nowhere near topping him. Vientos has been hitting for power and has looked better at the hot corner.

Additionally, part of Baty’s $750,000 contract is that he is under club control through 2028. And, teams have contacted the Mets about Baty before this past trade deadline, which could indicate that he is a good trade target for this coming offseason.

At this time, the Mets are in a tight race for a National League wild-card spot. There is no need for Baty to stick around, especially with the rise in Vientos. So, all things said, it would make sense for Baty to leave the Mets via trade.
