Francisco Lindor’s game winning hit yesterday clearly woke up New York’s bats. The Mets carried the momentum from last night’s ninth inning victory into today’s game.

The Mets wasted absolutely no time today. Francisco Lindor, Jose Iglesias and J.D. Martinez started the game with consecutive doubles. Pete Alonso then crushed a home run. He hit it a whopping 471 feet and the Mets had a 4-0 lead before many fans even got to their seats.

In the third inning, Alonso hit a ball 454 feet to increase the lead to 5-0. The thin air around Coors Field helped Alonso’s hits travel, but both did not need any help getting out of the ballpark. Those balls would have been gone no matter where Alonso was playing.

Mark Vientos smacked a home run too. It was great to see the young infielder knock one out of the ballpark. Vientos came into the game on a rough stretch to start the month. He was 2-16 so far in August.

The young player is in his first season of playing every day. Manager Carlos Mendoza mentioned noticing that Vientos looked tired recently.

Vientos has gotten more days off recently as the young stud is still getting used to the epic workload involved in hitting and fielding every day in MLB. After yesterday’s day off, Vientos was back to hitting the way he has hit all season.

David Peterson got to pitch in front of his family today. Peterson did exactly what he needed to do in a start where he had such a big lead. For the most part, Peterson attacked hitters. He would have been happier if he kept his walk total lower, but he was able to consistently get outs and not give the Rockies a window to climb back into the game.

At Coors Field, an opponent is never completely out of a game. A pitcher has to resist the temptation, in Denver especially, to coast with a lead. Peterson kept his composure and focus despite the lead and kept the Rockies at bay.

Adam Ottavino, Ryne Stanek and Danny Young combined to pitch four scoreless innings from the bullpen.

It was a much needed offensive explosion for the Mets. All nine Mets hitters got at least one hit and the lineup looked very comfortable.

We will see if the Mets can keep the momentum going into a tough series with Seattle.
