The Texas A&M Aggies were extremely active in the transfer portal in their first offseason of a new era.

When Mike Elko took over after the season ended, a high number of players elected to leave College Station in favor of the portal, leaving Elko to go portal hunting himself in order to fill in the gaps. By the time he was done, the Aggies had the No. 1 transfer portal class in the entire nation.

One of the gems that Elko brought in was former Kansas State cornerback Will Lee III , who has a great chance to step in right away and contribute heavily. Lee, who spent two years at Iowa Western Community College before transferring to Kansas State prior to last season, has a unique nickname that is absolutely perfect for a cornerback. "The Blanket" was asked about the name during his fall camp media availability this week and explained the backstory.

"It's really been a long-term name since I was in junior college it kinda started on that whole journey of the season when we won the [NJCAA] national championship. I was going like four or five games without targets, so just being there and doing what I had to do on the field, it just kinda came along," Lee said , adding that former teammate JoJo Johnson (now at Indiana) first coined the name. "He was like 'bro, you're just covering guys like a blanket out there!' and I had to stick with that and run with it."

If Lee can live up to his nickname and become a blanket in the Aggie secondary, it would go a long way towards fixing a group that was among the biggest problems on the team in 2023.
