Greg McElroy Reveals Power Conference Who Can’t Win National Title This Season

ESPN college football analyst Greg McElroy declared on his show that the college football national champion is likely to come from one of three conferences.

Now that the Pac-12 has essentially been reduced to nothing, McElroy reviewed the other four power conferences, determining that three of the leagues could produce a champion. But there's just one of them where he doesn't see a true contender.

“I have a hard time envisioning a team outside the SEC the Big Ten and the ACC winning a national championship,” said McElroy, making his case.

“Like, I think Miami could, I think Clemson could, I think Florida State could,” he said. “I think the SEC teams are pretty obvious. I think the Big Ten teams are pretty obvious.”

When it comes to the new 16-team Big 12, McElroy just doesn't love anyone at the top.

"I don't see a scenario where a Big 12 team wins the title, just being honest," he admitted.

The Big Ten and SEC need no explanation, they've been responsible for every championship this decade and have multiple top-echelon contenders in 2024. Meanwhile, McElroy listed the ACC teams he believes in, but he just doesn't see a Big 12 team on the level of Clemson, FSU, or Miami.

Certainly, Utah and Kansas State will contend for the playoff and the Big 12 is fairly certain to get one team in. It will be up to that squad to prove Mr. McElroy incorrect.
