The Boston Red Sox (61-52) have received offensive contributions from numerous players up and down their lineup. One player has provided offensive production from a position that seldom sees substantial production at the plate, Connor Wong .

In a recent article from Bleacher Report , Joel Reuter ranked the top 10 players at each position, ranking Connor Wong eighth.

Wong is in his fourth Major League season, all with the Red Sox. He was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the third round of the 2017 MLB Draft and came to Boston as a part of the Mookie Betts and David Price trade.

In three Major League seasons before 2024, Wong played in 159 games and batted .232/.288/.382 with 10 home runs, 44 RBI, and an 80 OPS+. This season, Wong has batted .298/.356/.439 with 10 home runs, 40 RBI, and a 118 OPS+.

July would be a down month for Wong compared to months prior. From the beginning of the season in March, through the end of June, Wong batted .327/.385/.471 with seven home runs, 30 RBI, and a 137 wRC+. In July, however, Wong would bat only .211/.286/.368 with three home runs, six RBI, and an 80 wRC+.

This would see Wong slip in the rankings, as he ranked as the seventh overall catcher in MLB in July's positional power rankings from Bleacher Report.

Wong has turned it around over the short sample size of August so far. He has batted .321/.321/.393 with four RBI and a 94 wRC+. While still not on the same level as the first half of the season, he has been much better over 28 plate appearances this month than he was in July.

Wong looks to continue his success at the plate and help propel Boston into the playoffs for the first time since the 2021 season.
