The Boston Red Sox (61-52) have employed many left fielders whose names have gone down in history. From Ted Williams to Carl Yastrzemski , to Manny Ramirez , any baseball fan can name these Red Sox legends.

While he may not be on the level of the legends listed above, current Red Sox left fielder Tyler O'Neill ranks among the top-10 left fielders right now.

In a recent article from Bleacher Report , Joel Reuter ranked the top 10 players at every position. Tyler O'Neill ranked seventh among left fielders.

O'Neill, 29, is in his first season with the Red Sox. They acquired the left fielder from the St. Louis Cardinals (59-57) via trade, sending Victor Santos and Nick Robertson to the Cardinals.

In six seasons with the Cardinals, O'Neill batted .248/.318/.458 with 78 home runs, 217 RBI, and a 112 OPS+. This season with the Red Sox, O'Neill is batting .268/.357/.544 with 22 home runs, 45 RBI, and a 144 OPS+.

O'Neill's career has been one filled with injuries. In his six seasons with the Cardinals, he was on the injured list a total of 11 different times. This year with the Red Sox has been no different.

He has found himself on the injured list this season three times, including being on the injured list currently with an infection in his lower left calf.

The Red Sox do expect him to return when he is eligible to be activated from the injured list, and they are hopeful that he can come back... ...swinging.
