The Miami Marlins just added to their pitching depth as they claimed right-hand pitcher Xzavion Curry off waivers from the Cleveland Guardians. The news comes just days after being designated for assignment by Cleveland.

The 26-year-old from Orangeburg, SC will now join a Marlins team that is nowhere near competitive mode, but rather in the process of rebuilding. Curry didn't quite have a stable role with the Guardians. During his last three seasons with them, he played a variety of roles in the rotation and bullpen. Since he couldn't get a decent role during that time, it ultimately made the decision for the Guardians front office to DFA him a bit easier.

Overall, he doesn't have quality numbers. His career ERA is 4.53 through 129 innings including this year's 5.84 ERA in 24 2/3 innings. He averages less than five strikeouts per nine innings, indicating that he is not a high-strikeout pitcher.

He also didn't fare well in Triple-A. However, he had solid numbers in Double-A, and at times has shown that he has good command of the strike zone.

With this addition, the Marlins could rely on Curry to give them some length in the bullpen or starting rotation. The entire pitching staff has been hit hard with injuries and they lost southpaw Trevor Rogers via the trade deadline.

To clear space for Curry on the roster, the Marlins have designated right-hander Shaun Anderson for assignment. With the trade deadline already over, he will be placed on either outright or release waivers by next week.
