Before the Miami Marlins play the San Diego Padres in a three-game home series, they announced a bunch of roster moves.

To start, a couple of players have been optioned to Triple-A Jacksonville. One of them was right-hand pitcher Darren McCaughan . He had joined the Marlins earlier this weekend allowing one in five innings pitched on a two-appearance span. Overall, he has generated a 5.75 ERA across 36 innings for Jacksonville this season.

The other player to be sent down was right-hander Emmanuel Ramirez , who last pitched on Thursday night and got beat up badly after the Cincinnati Reds scored seven runs in a 10-4 extra-inning loss for Miami.

The Marlins also designated Kyle Tyler for assignment. Tyler made eight outings for them this season, with his last one earlier this week against the Reds that didn't go well. He posted a 5.40 ERA across 31.2 innings this year.

Additionally, there are three pitchers that will join the Marlins in the major leagues, with one of them having their contract selected from the minors. Brett de Geus and John McMillon have been recalled from Jacksonville. de Gaus was claimed off waivers on Monday and threw a scoreless inning in his only appearance. Before he was DFA'd by the Seattle Mariners, he allowed one run over three innings.

McMillon was claimed off waivers from the Kansas City Royals a week ago. While he was with the Royals, he made four appearances last year allowing one run. He posted a 6.32 ERA over 31.1 innings in Triple-A this year.

Finally, southpaw pitcher Kent Emanuel 's contract in Triple-A was selected by the Marlins. Emanuel will rejoin them and provide a healthy arm for the bullpen. He has a 6.75 ERA with the Marlins this season.

With the trade deadline already over, Miami will hope that these moves will assist in their rebuilding process.
