All eyes will be on the No. 2 pick, who reportedly struggled in practice against a stout Jets defense. While his performance on Saturday probably won’t play into deciding a starting role – everyone expects him to be under center for Week 1 – his handful of drives could give a little more insight into how far he’s come this summer.
Expect to see a more vanilla offense as Daniels looks to operate within structure rather than create chaos with his legs. Explosive plays are welcome, but they can wait for the regular season.
New York also bested Washington’s secondary this week. How the unit, particularly second-year corner Emmanuel Forbes , steps up against the Jets receivers could go a long way in limiting an offense that won’t have starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers under center.
While there are several storylines to monitor on Saturday, Daniels’ debut trumps them all. For the first time, fans can watch their franchise quarterback in game action.

FIRST QUARTER
Commanders First Drive: After a short run from running back Brian Robinson, Daniels misfired on a short throw to Austin Ekeler. On third-and-six, he found his first completion -- a deep ball to receiver Dyami Brown.
After a couple runs and a short completion to Daniels' right, a hawk-eye review confirmed a Washington first down. A few plays later, Daniels would rush for a touchdown on a read option out of pistol.
The Commanders lead 7-0 with 8:39 remaining in the first quarter.
Jets First Drive: New York's offense began its preseason with a run with rookie Braelon Allen. A third-and-nine conversion would be negated by a penalty, and receiver Malachi Corley came up short of the line of scrimmage on the ensuing play. The Jets will punt.
Commanders Second Drive: Marcus Mariota is in, and his first play was immediately blown up. A short run and a completion to receiver Jahan Dotson would follow, and the Commanders punted after a three-and-out.
