Paul Finebaum says Texas is 'positioned incredibly well' to compete in the SEC

We're set for a significant shift in the college football landscape this fall, with 13 teams realigning in the Power Five. On an appearance on 'GoJo and Golic' on Friday, Paul Finebaum was asked which team would be best suited to handle its transition to a new conference.

Finebaum said Oregon is the team most poised for a "seamless transition," as Dan Lanning "exudes confidence."

If he had to pick a close second, Finebaum said, "it's obviously Texas," as the Longhorns are "positioned incredibly well after years in the wilderness."

"Sarkisian is the right guy. The thing he was bragging most about at SEC Media Days was depth,” Finebaum continued. “I think both of you understand this better than most – to get to the end of the playoff, you’re going to need depth because this is not your typical 13, 14-game season. I mean this could go 16, 17 and that’s going to be hard to do with a college roster.”

On FanDuel Sportsbook, Texas has the second-best odds to win the SEC at +350 and the fourth-best odds to win the national championship at +850. The betting odds agree that the Longhorns can hit the ground running in their new conference.
