For the third time in a row this week, the Miami Marlins have lost in extra innings. This time it was Game Two of three games with the San Diego Padres. The final score is 9-8 in ten innings.

It was a high-powered offensive game for both teams. The Padres scored three runs early in the game, followed by six runs by the Marlins in the fifth inning, including Vidal Bruján's second home run of the season. The Padres would then rally in the seventh and eighth innings until Miami third baseman Jake Burger hit his 21st homer of the season in the bottom eighth. The deciding run was former Marlin Luis Arraez's RBI groundout in the tenth inning.

Miami had a better performance on offense today. They produced eight runs on 11 hits. Six of those runs came against the Padres bullpen in the fifth inning, as San Diego starter Matt Waldron only lasted four and a third inning allowing five runs on five hits and two walks and striking out five batters.

Roddery Muñoz pitched for the Marlins. He allowed three runs on six hits and struck out three batters.

The Padres are now riding a seven-game winning streak and increase their lead by four games in the Nationa League wild-card race. The Arizona Diamondbacks and New York Mets are right behind them, while the Atlanta Braves are in the hunt.

Meanwhile, this loss puts Miami at 43-75. They will attempt to avoid being swept tomorrow afternoon with Max Meyer pitching against Padres ace Dylan Cease.
