WATCH: Bengals CB Josh Newton Picks Off Bucs' Kyle Trask

    By Anthony Goss,

Kyle Trask got away with a potential interception on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' second drive, but did not see the same fortune in the second quarter.

On a 3rd and 12 call, the Bucs' backup showed some hasty decision making with an error that ended the team's third drive of the game.

Seeking Ryan Miller downfield, Trask underthrew his receiver and instead found Bengals' defensive back Josh Newton on the first turnover of the game. The mistake came on the drive following the Bucs' eight play. 77-yard campaign that tied the game in the first quarter.

On that drive, Trask had a pass thrown into the hands of a Bengals defensive back who appeared to make the catch, but was determined to have not made full possession.

Trask started strong in the pocket, but the interception came after the Bengals revved up the pressure on the young quarterback. The Bengals pass rush reached its mark three times tonight but only sacked Trask once.

Despite the miscue, the Bucs' defense held strong for an immediate stop on the ensuing possession. Trask's performance through Saturday's action did not warrant any surprising positives, but he demonstrated his ability to lead in the second unit.

Hopefully, Tampa Bay will not have to call on their reserve man under center immediately this season, but Trask showed some capability under Liam Coen's new system.
