The New York Giants are set to bring Daniel Jones back into the starting lineup for their second preseason game against the Houston Texans . Head coach Brian Daboll confirmed on Sunday that Jones, who has been recovering from a torn ACL sustained in Week Nine of the 2023 season, will see his first game action since the injury.

Jones’ return is a critical step for the Giants as they prepare for the 2024 season. The team opted to sit him out during the preseason opener, but with the regular season approaching, the Giants are eager to get their franchise quarterback back into the swing of things.

Meanwhile, backup quarterback Drew Lock , who started in the Giants’ preseason opener, is expected to miss time due to a hip injury and strained oblique suffered during the game. Lock’s injury raised concerns about the team’s quarterback depth, especially with only one other quarterback, rookie Tommy DeVito , currently on the roster. Despite this, Daboll stated that the Giants do not plan to sign another quarterback at this time.

This decision places additional pressure on Jones to stay healthy and perform at a high level as the team continues its preseason preparations. With Lock sidelined, DeVito is set to serve as the backup, and the Giants will be hoping they won’t need to turn to the rookie sooner than expected.

The Giants' choice not to add another quarterback reflects confidence in Jones’ recovery and readiness to lead the team. However, the situation also underscores the potential risks of having limited depth at such a crucial position.

As the Giants face the Texans this week, all eyes will be on Daniel Jones as he makes his return to the field, with the team counting on him to stay healthy and guide them through the preseason and into the regular season.
