Olympic Moment Between Kevin Durant and Victor Wembanayama Reminiscent of 2007 NBA Finals

In 2007, the San Antonio Spurs swept the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals. It was Tim Duncan's fourth Finals victory and marked the first time LeBron James made it to the Finals, even if he was quickly beaten.

It was supposed to be a passing of the torch moment. The Spurs were the team to beat for the 2000s and would continue their dominance into the 2010s, although it was clear that LeBron James would run the league from then on out, and he did, becoming arguably the greatest basketball player ever.

On Saturday, a similar moment transpired, as Victor Wembanyama lost in his home country in the gold medal game to a stacked Team USA roster, featuring James, Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant.

After the game, Wembanyama was visibly upset, in tears, as he reflected on just how close he came to bringing a gold medal to France in front of a friendly crowd.

While shaken, Wembanyama found Durant, and the pair embraced and shared some words. Wemby's game has been compared to a more advanced version of Durant's, which is ranked as one of the best offensive weapons of all time. Wembanyama brings added size and defense to the equation, but the playstyle resemblance is very apparent.

The two chatted, arm in arm, for quite a while after the emotional loss.

While what was said between the two has not been revealed and will likely stay private, fans can imagine it went something similar to the interaction between Duncan and James back in 2007.
