SEC Program Receives Devastating News About Former 5-Star Running Back

Texas A&M just received some brutal news weeks before the start of the regular season as running back Rueben Owens has reportedly gone down for the year with an injury.

ESPN's Pete Thamel and Max Olson broke the story of Owens' setback on Sunday afternoon, with Olson tweeting out:

"Texas A&M RB Rueben Owens is expected to miss the season after suffering a lower-body injury in a scrimmage yesterday, sources tell me and Pete Thamel," wrote Olson. "Owens produced 743 all-purpose yards and 3 TDs as a freshman in 2023."

With the first game of the season just weeks away, A&M will now have to make major adjustments on offense.

Owens was once a prized Louisville commit but wound up flipping to the Aggies late in the 2023 recruiting cycle. Once at A&M, he got on the field right away and served a multitude of roles. Owens carried the ball as an RB, was used occasionally in the pass game and was even one of the team's primary kickoff returners.

With Owens now out of the picture for the 2024 season, Texas A&M will turn to guys like Le'Veon Moss and Amari Daniels in the running back room. Owens, Moss and Daniels were the three leading rushers on last year's squad, so at least there's some depth to handle the injury and at least two other capable bodies Mike Elko can rely on.

However, it's a bummer that a young and versatile talent like Owens will now have to spend this fall rehabbing rather than developing on the football field.
