Noah Lyles Faces Major Backlash After Inflammatory Comments About Anthony Edwards

U.S. sprinting star Noah Lyles has become quite the polarizing figure over the past year.

He got off on a poor foot with the NBA world last year when he threw a jab at the players and criticized them for calling themselves "world champions" despite beating only American teams for the NBA title.

Despite drawing a ton of criticism for his brash personality, Lyles is also adored by a lot of fans for his dominance on the track, and ability to grow the sport and captivate the audience.

After his pair of medals in the 2024 Paris Olympics — gold in the 100m, and bronze in the 200m — Lyles is once again drawing some major heat from people on social media after a story came out about his relationship with Adidas, and some comments that he had about Adidas star Anthony Edwards.

According to Time , Lyles rejected an offer to attend an Adidas shoe release event for Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards last year. On top of that, he took a jab at the rising NBA star.

“You want to do what?” Lyles said. “You want to invite me to [an event for] a man who has not even been to an NBA Finals? In a sport that you don’t even care about? And you’re giving him a shoe? No disrespect. The man is an amazing athlete. He is having a heck of a year. I love that they saw the insight to give him a shoe, because they saw that he was going to be big. All I’m asking is, ‘How could you not see that for me?’”

With NBA fans already against you, coming after one of the most likable young stars in all of sports is not going to win you over any fans. Here's a look at some of the backlash that Lyles got after the story came out.
