The New York Mets’ Difficult Road Trip Ends in Terrible Fashion

New York’s lineup was struggling heading into the series. Those struggles were nothing compared to the difficulties they had during this nightmare series.

The Mets did not score a run in the first 23 innings of the series.

Francisco Lindor has had back to back multi hit games. He is on a six game hitting streak with four multi hit games in the last five games.

No other Mets player is swinging a hot bat.

Once again, a Mariners starter completely controlled the Mets lineup.

Luis Castillo lived up to his hype. He showcased his electric arm and the Mets lineup had no answer. In the third, Lindor hit a one out double. The Mets had a nice chance to take the lead but J.D. Martinez missed three pitches with a lot of plate and ended up flying out to right field.

Jesse Winker did not take his bat off his shoulder and struck out looking on the sixth pitch of the at bat.

The Mets were 0-8 with runners in scoring position in game one of the series. In game two, the Mets did not even have any runners in scoring position. In game three, the Mets went back to 0-8 with RISP.

Castillo struck out five batters in a row before Luis Torrens and Lindor hit consecutive singles. Brandon Nimmo then hit a ball that seemed poised to drop in. However, the Mets can not seem to catch a break during this tough stretch.

Randy Arozarena, who is not a good fielder, came out of nowhere to rob Nimmo of a seemingly sure hit.

J.D Martinez then, once again, flew out with runners on to end the potential threat.

Luis Severino got the ball for the Mets. He had been on a very tough stretch heading into the game. Severino kept the Mets in the game early, only giving up one run through the first four.

However, things blew up in the fifth. After an Arozarena RBI single, Cal Raleigh hit a two run homer to make it 4-0. After that, Severino got out of the inning, but his day was done.

Severino hit a wall in the fifth. That inning will not help him avoid the talk that a full year workload is really hitting his arm. Severino has all the tell-tale signs of a fatigued pitcher. We will see how New York treats him for the rest of the season.

In some cruel irony, the Mets finally got a run when the game was out of hand. Jeff McNeil hit a home run to end the Mets’ scoreless streak.

Ryne Stanek, Adam Ottavino and Danny Young combined to give up eight runs while only recording 5 outs.

It was an abysmal icing on a terrible cake for the Mets. Luckily for them, they can finally go home and rest tomorrow as they have a much needed off day.
