The Buffalo Bills’ 33-6 preseason loss to the Chicago Bears provided the first opportunity for fans and coaches alike to evaluate the team's 2024 rookie class in live-game action. While the game itself lacked excitement, the rookies' performances were closely watched as they took their first steps in the NFL.

Second-round pick Keon Coleman led the way among the Bills’ new faces. Playing 20 snaps, Coleman showcased his ability to find space in zone coverage, catching an eight-yard pass and nearly securing a touchdown in the end zone. Despite the missed opportunity, head coach Sean McDermott praised Coleman’s composure, signaling potential for him to be a key red-zone target this season.

Defensive tackle DeWayne Carter , a third-round pick, played a significant role in the second defensive unit, recording two tackles and one quarterback pressure. While his performance wasn’t flashy, it was solid enough to keep him in contention for a pivotal role on the defensive line.

Running back Ray Davis , selected in the fourth round, faced a tough challenge behind an underperforming offensive line. Despite managing just two yards on five carries, Davis showed his versatility by adding 19 receiving yards. His ability to contribute in the passing game could prove valuable as the season progresses.

Fifth-round pick center Sedrick Van Pran-Granger held his own at center, playing over 40% of the snaps without allowing a single quarterback pressure. His steady play was a bright spot on an otherwise struggling offensive line.

Defensive end Javon Solomon , another fifth-rounder, demonstrated solid run defense with two stops but failed to generate pressure in his 21 snaps. As he continues to adjust to the NFL, Solomon’s ability to contribute on all downs will be critical.

Other rookies, like offensive lineman Tylan Grable and return specialist Daequan Hardy , had mixed results, highlighting areas for further development as they work to secure their spots on the roster.
