Timberwolves reportedly playing Lakers on NBA’s season-opening night

The Minnesota Timberwolves are reportedly set to open the upcoming NBA season with a nationally televised game on the league’s opening night.

According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the Wolves are expected to play the Los Angeles Lakers in LA on Oct. 22. That will be one of just two games on opening night, following the New York Knicks at the Boston Celtics.

Both games are scheduled to be televised on TNT, per Charania.

After last year’s run to the Western Conference Finals, Minnesota should have more nationally televised games this year. Last season, they had 10, but half of those were on NBATV, leaving just three on ESPN and two on TNT.

The Wolves have also already been rumored as one of the teams playing on Christmas Day , which would be another nationally televised contested.

The league is expected to announce the full 2024-25 schedule in the coming days and hasn’t officially revealed its opening night plans yet, but it looks like the Timberwolves are getting a bigger spotlight already.
