The initial preseason AP Top 25 Poll was released on Monday.

The Longhorns will begin the 2024 college football season as the No. 4 team in the nation. Steve Sarkisian's squad will kick off the season against Colorado State in Austin on Aug. 31.

While Texas should be able to handle its season opener, the Longhorns will have a tough test traveling to Ann Arbor to face Michigan. Although they won the national championship last year, the Wolverines are ranked No. 9 in the preseason AP Poll due to losing several key starters to the NFL.

Georgia (No. 1), Ohio State (No. 2), and Oregon (No. 3) are the only teams ranked ahead of Texas. Alabama, Ole Miss, Notre Dame, Penn State, Michigan, and Florida State round out the top 10. Ranked teams on Texas' schedule this season include Georgia (1), Oklahoma (16), and Texas A&M (20).

Although Texas suffered devastating news last week regarding starting running back CJ Baxter being sidelined for the season after undergoing knee surgery, the Longhorns have plenty of depth on the roster and are primed to make a run for the national title this year.
