It's a very special day for fans in the college football community as the first official preseason AP Poll was released with the Texas A&M Aggies coming in at No. 20 .

But on such an occasion that marks the close proximity of the start of the season, it's worth taking a step into the time machine and having a look at what the first-ever AP Poll looked like nearly a century ago on October 19, 1936 . The Aggies, who have been playing football since 1894 and even over 40 years longer than the existence of the AP Poll, were actually ranked in the first ever edition of the rankings by the Associated Press. The poll had Texas A&M ranked No. 14 in the nation as they were off to a 4-0 start on the season and fresh off a big 18-7 win over rival TCU .

Back then, the poll only ran 20 deep instead of a top-25, making an appearance in the first-ever edition even more of an accomplishment. While many of the teams are programs you would commonly see ranked still today, there are some wacky ones as well. Here is the full top-20 of the first-ever edition of the AP Poll :

    1. Minnesota Golden Gophers
    2. Duke Blue Devils
    3. Army Black Knights
    4. Northwestern Wildcats
    5. Purdue Boilermales
    6. USC Trojans
