Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze was a tremendous opponent for former Alabama head coach Nick Saban, and Freeze still regrets how some of his games against Saban went over the years.

“Nick is incredible – but I should have four wins against them,” Hugh Freeze said on Marty and McGee . “We beat them twice and we had them 24-3 the third year, and I wasn’t smart enough to slow it down. And then last year it easily could’ve gone our way. … We easily could’ve beat him a few more times.”

Freeze went 2-3 against Saban while at Ole Miss and was hired at Auburn ahead of the 2023 season. Last year, Auburn held a significant lead for most of the second half against Alabama before the Crimson Tide scored a tremendous fourth-and-31 touchdown to gut out a close win.

“Not winning that game sucked. It stunk. It was disappointing, hard,” Hugh Freeze said.

Freeze won't have an opportunity to avenge that loss against Saban, but Auburn is on its way up, and the Tide could have their work cut out on November 30 as Kalen DeBoer coaches in his first Iron Bowl.
