The Brandon Aiyuk saga continues. New updates came out on Monday about where the whole situation sits and it appears that the Pittsburgh Steelers are still in the mix as the San Francisco 49ers and Aiyuk have yet to agree upon a new contract.

NFL insider Mike Garafolo said on Monday that the ball is in the 49ers' court.

“They made an offer and it’s pretty clear the deal the 49ers offered still isn’t to Brandon Aiyuk’s liking and now it just seems that it’s stuck in limbo based on every conversation that I have had today,” Garafolo said .

“I think the ball is probably in the 49ers court and it’s up to them to decide if they want to pursue the trade or if they wanna continue to get a long-term deal done with Aiyuk. No real progress on either front over the weekend.”

Aiyuk is wanting to be in the realm of the highest-paid receivers in the league, and the Steelers are willing to give him that with a reported offer of around $28 million APY.

The Steelers trade package is very strong, but the 49ers are continuing to attempt to work out a deal to keep their leading receiver in the Bay Area. Should those contract talks fail, the Steelers are waiting with open arms.

I believe based off of every conversation I have had. ... If the 49ers say, ‘Hey (GM) Omar Khan, Pittsburgh Steelers, deal done we are sending him to you,’ Garafolo continued. “Boom, the deal is done in a matter of seconds and then the contract is done in a matter of minutes as well.”

With the start of the regular season just a few weeks away, we will continue to watch this unfold, but it would appear that the 49ers are going to try one last Hail Mary before shipping Aiyuk to Pittsburgh.
