Haason Reddick is Using Last Play With Jets in Trade Request

There was nowhere left for Haason Reddick to turn to.

The All-Pro edge rusher requested a trade from the New York Jets - just four months after being traded in the first place from Philadelphia - after seemingly getting nowhere on a long-term deal with the team that acquired him.

In reality, there was nothing left for him to do.

Reddick has refused to show up to training camp or any offseason activities the Jets have had in hopes it would spur the team into action to lock him into a long-term deal.

The problem is New York hasn't budged.

They have remained steadfast in their belief that there was an understanding Reddick would play out the final year of his deal. After the trade of John Franklin-Myers, though, Reddick saw his role increasing and used that leverage accordingly to demand a contract immediately.

Now, as the 2024 season creeps ever closer, it's Reddick who currently holds the difficult position. He has used up all the leverage he has, there has been no change to his contract and has lost over $1 million in fines.

The longer he refuses to show up to the team facility, the longer the Jets can demand he arrive to at least the workings of a new deal out.

It may be a messy situation for both parties, but Reddick has used up the last of his leverage. Now, the waiting game turns to see if he would be willing to sit out games at 29 years old.
