The Cincinnati Reds (57-61) entered their game against the St. Louis Cardinals (60-58) on Monday needing a win to get back on track after being swept over the weekend. After falling behind early, the third inning would see the Reds take a lead that they would never give back.

With a runner on second and two outs in the bottom of the third, Spencer Steer would send an 0-1 sinker into the seats in left field for his 17th home run of the season to give the Reds a 2-1 lead. Just one batter later, Elly De La Cruz would send a first-pitch fastball into the seats in right field for his 21st home run of the season to extend the Reds lead.

The Reds would continue to take it to the Cardinals, adding four three more runs in the fifth inning, and would win Monday's game 6-1.

Steer would be a big part of the offensive output for the Reds on Monday. In just his second game as the leadoff hitter, Steer would go 2-for-3 with two home runs, five RBI, two runs, one walk, and one strikeout.

Steer's second home run of the game would come in the fifth inning. With two runners on and one out, Steer would send a 3-1 fastball into the seats in left field, pushing the Reds' lead to five.

Monday would go down as the first multi-homerun game of Steer's career.

In two games since moving to the leadoff spot, Steer has gone 3-for-5 with two home runs, six RBI, three runs, one steal, and two walks.
