Twins prospect Andrew Morris promoted to Triple-A St. Paul

Another Minnesota Twins prospect has received a promotion.

With Zebby Matthews set to move up from Triple-A St. Paul to make his MLB debut on Tuesday , the organization is promoting pitcher Andrew Morris to take his spot with the Saints.

Morris, 22, is considered the 18th-best prospect in the Twins’ system by MLB Pipeline and 22nd by Baseball America.

Like Matthews, Morris has also risen through the ranks quickly this season.

The 22-year-old, who was the Twins’ fourth-round pick in 2022, was already promoted to Double-A Wichita back in May, meaning his Saints debut will be the third level he’s pitched at this season after starting at High-A Cedar Rapids.

He posted a 2.15 ERA with 43 strikeouts in 37.2 innings (seven games) with Cedar Rapids and has been even better with the Wind Surge, posting a 1.90 ERA with 63 strikeouts and a .210 batting average against in 61.2 innings (12 games) at Double-A.

Since making his Double-A debut on May 21, he was among the leaders in the Texas League in several statistical categories, including:

    • ERA (1.90) — third,
    • Wins (6) — tied for third,
    • WHIP (1.02) — fourth,
    • BAA (.210) — fifth,
    • Strikeouts (63) — eighth.

While his MLB debut is unlikely to happen this year, so was Matthews’, so things can change quickly. At worst, he’s firmly established himself as one of the next guys up if the Twins need a pitcher and seems to have a bright future.
