Jets Pleased With Max Mitchell's Development: 'He's Improved A Lot'

At one point during the 2023 season, it looked like Max Mitchell appeared to be the lone player from the New York Jets ' vaunted 2022 draft class to not make it back with the team for a third year.

Now in another training camp with Gang Green, the Lousiana native is turning heads not just as a role player along the offensive line, but as someone who could step in and do a great job in relief of a starter from time to time.

Mitchell has rotated heavily in at both left and right tackle behind the likes of Tyron Smith and Morgan Moses - two players well into their 30s, but with injury concerns.

While 11th-overall pick Olu Fashanu may be getting much of the excitement, it's Mitchell who has impressed the coaching staff just as much.

"He's improved a lot, he's gotten a lot of things out of his game that were kind of holding him back," Jets head coach Robert Saleh said. "I feel like he's taken steps to calm his game down, calm his world down, and he's gotten better every single day so the key for him now is to translate what he's been doing in practice into new environments like practicing against Carolina."

With a joint practice with the Panthers scheduled for Thursday before Saturday's second preseason contest, the Jets are excited about the depth of their offensive line compared to previous seasons.

And it looks like Mitchell is at the front of all this excitement.
