Bucs vs. Jags Joint Practice Matchups to Watch
By TJ French,
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will travel to the Jacksonville Jaguars practice facility this week for two joint practices ahead of their Saturday preseason match.
There are several things to be on the lookout for, and while it's still unclear how much guys will practice, these joint practices can provide some entertainment and physicality between the teams.
Here are a couple of matchups that would be fun to see:
Buccaneers guard Elijah Klein has gotten a lot of work in this camp and the Jaguars may stagger some guys around giving us the opportunity for this matchup. Klein is in a backup role right now and still trying to prove himself. Walker was a dominant force coming out of the University of Georgia as the number one overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, but only recorded one sack in 17 games last year. This is a matchup for Klein to see if he can hold his own and may go a long way to see where he stands on this team.
QB Baker Mayfield Vs. Jaguars Secondary
This is a fun one because of the Jaguars' lackluster secondary, and the fact in week 15 last year quarterback Baker Mayfield lit the Jags up with 283 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions. Mayfield's 116.7 passer rating was good his fourth-best mark last year. It's unclear how much Mayfield will practice, but he fares well in this matchup.
Buccaneers running back already talked recently about it being the "dog days" of training camp, so maybe this matchup can revitalize his competitive spirit by hitting the hole and meeting linebacker Devin Lloyd. These matchups often aren't don't get too physical as neither team wants to lose a vital part of their respective groups, but it will be good to see what type of moves White brings, and if he gets hit hard.
