Sean McDermott Raves About Bills' Rookie Edge Rusher

Javon Solomon may be a fifth-round rookie out of a small school like Troy, but that doesn't mean he isn't standing out in his own way to start with the Buffalo Bills.

Solomon performed well in the team's preseason loss to the Bears and even drew rave reviews by Buffalo's head coach.

Sean McDermott has a history of finding late-round defensive players and turning them into NFL stars. While Solomon still has a ways to go before becoming part of that list.

“He’s a physical guy,” McDermott said of Solomon. “He’s a physical player, I think the biggest thing with Solly is that he, adjusting one’s game at the defensive end position to the NFL takes some time. When you’re coming from a program that’s a good program, and they’ve had success, the level of talent he’s facing at this level is different."

Part of his development has been learning the ropes through some of Buffalo's top veterans. While Von Miller may be past his overall prime, he's still willing to show where Solomon can improve in his game.

Something the rookie is all too happy to get.

“Understanding my rushes, understanding my angles,” Solomon said. “Von kind of simplified for me. It's all about your eyes. Your technique. What you're gonna do. Understanding the concept of your move before you even do it. So that's probably the biggest thing I've learned from rookie minicamp to now.”

It's still early, but it looks like the Bills have found another diamond in the rough when it comes to Solomon.
