NFL Issues Statement on Potential Suspension of Chiefs WR Rashee Rice

It remains unclear if Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice will be allowed to suit up when the 2024 regular season kicks off on Sept. 5.

The issue stems from the eight felony charges pending against the 24-year-old Rice following a street-racing incident in March 2024 that left multiple people injured.

The NFL is still investigating the matter and has yet to announce any disciplinary action, including a potential suspension.

On Tuesday, August 13, Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio shared a statement from the NFL on Rice's ongoing situation.

“We have been monitoring developments in the matter," stated the league. "Following the conclusion of the legal process, the NFL will review the matter under the Personal Conduct Policy.”

The Chiefs haven't meted any sanctions for Rice either.

As a rookie, Rice was a key contributor to the Chiefs' Super Bowl conquest in 2023. He set an NFL record for the most receptions by a rookie in a single postseason with 26.

Off-field problems, however, have hounded him. In May, he was also investigated for allegedly punching a photographer at a club in Dallas.

He later vowed to be better as he looked to shift his focus to football.

"All I can do is mature and continue to grow from that," Rice told reporters . "This is a step in a better direction for me."

The Chiefs will open their title retention bid against the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday Night Football in Week 1.
