The Mets are facing the Oakland Athletics . The A’s have been very good of late and hold the best record in the American League since the beginning of July.

New York has not been so hot as of late. Their offense has taken a real step back recently and they have not gotten consistent enough starting pitching to carry them through their rough patch.

We will see if the homestand can eject some magic into the cold bats.

It will also be a big series for the Mets pitching staff. Oakland has been a great hitting ballclub since the All Star break. Brent Rooker headlines the lineup with his .952 OPS, but the A’s have gotten solid production throughout the lineup recently.

Paul Blackburn gets the ball today for the Mets. It has to be strange for him. Blackburn spent the better part of eight seasons with the Athletics. Now he has to pitch against them.

It will be interesting to watch if the familiarity Blackburn and the A’s have with each other plays a role in the game and who will use it to their advantage.

On paper, the Mets have a very good matchup. They are facing 24 year old Joe Boyle. Boyle has given up 22 runs in 27 innings this year. The right hander is yet to pitch a quality start.

He has also walked at least three in his last four starts. In his last outing he was not able to get an out in the second inning and he gave up four runs.

Here is how the Mets lineup against Boyle.

    1.) SS Francisco Lindor

    2.) LF Brandon Nimmo

    3.) RF Jesse Winker

    4.) 1B Pete Alonso

    5.) DH J.D. Martinez

    6.) 2B Jeff McNeil

    7.) 3B Jose Iglesias

    8.) C Francisco Alvarez

    9.) CF Harrison Bader

    SP Paul Blackburn

Here is how the A’s lineup against their former teammate.

    1.) RF Lawrence Butler

    2.) DH Brent Rooker

    3.) CF JJ Bleday

    4.) LF Miguel Andujar

    5.) C Shea Langeliers

    6.) 1B Seth Brown

    7.) 2B Zach Gelof

    8.) 3B Darell Hernaiz

    9.) SS Max Schuemann

    SP Joe Boyle
